An innovative adaptive re-use design, Woods Bagot has
transformed the upper ground level of Paramount House
into a tailored shared workspace, celebrating traditional
joinery and artisan skills while honouring the building’s
heritage. Blending typologies, the space is connection
enabling, melding a sense of domesticity and hospitality
with a high level of professional service. Located on the
fringe of Sydney’s CBD within the creative district of Surry
Hills, the project provides 22 handcrafted timber office
suites across the 300sqm floorplate. Spatial planning
metrics of the modules was key to fulfilling the brief.
Comprising a refined interiors scheme, American Cherry is
paired with tan leather, stone and brass signalling the
transition between old and new. Recognising the original
fabric of the building, its reinterpretation has offered a
simultaneously functional and aesthetically unique shared
working experience, presenting a new paradigm for how
we work, who we work with and the future of work.
