Entry Description

JOI-Design has created a quirky, modern interpretation of British culture for the Frankfurt Premier Inn, the UK-based hotel brand’s first property in Germany. To better attract the German marketplace, the designers aimed to create a trendier concept than found in conventional UK Premier Inns by expressing “Britishness” in clever ways without drifting into kitsch. Central to their solution was the transformation of the lobby into a contemporary twist upon the classic British library. Travellers can unwind and work side-by-side within its multipurpose, open-plan layout, although degrees of privacy are offered via open shelves that separate tech-enabled work and social zones. Industrial finishes and eclectic FF&E shape the pub’s informal, loft-like feel, while library cabinets with British novels and children’s stories, subway tiles as used in the Tube, and English Bulldog figurines reinforce the British aesthetics. The standardised purple that pervades UK interiors is used sparingly to accommodate German design preferences.
