Inspired by the traditional structures seen in Japanese culture, the Kyoto Calendar is an exploration of experimental typography and an interactive work that functions as a monthly calendar. The calendar pays homage to the Shoji sliding doors of Ryokan structures that are found in the formal capital city, where each month is manifested within the exchanging doors that are taken out as the year goes on. Each door has a unique grid containing the days and months of the year, and using Japanese Kozo paper as the base the work is an authentic and direct homage to the beautiful city of Kyoto.
