MOTHER

MOTHER is a fashion collection combining traditional couture techniques with futuristic thinking, exploring an alternative reading of femininity in a cyborg context. Weijing accentuates the back and front hip on female bodies instead of chest and waist, creating elegant and otherworldly silhouettes. Her fabrication method follows the organic material properties, eliminating elaborate under-structures like wiring, boning, achieving sculptural and airy silhouettes solely through textiles manipulations. MOTHER is a love letter to female identities and a metaphor of Donna Haraway's utopian dreams.

Weijing Xiao is a fashion designer and creative technologist with a focus in post-human couture making and fabric research. They create nature-machine-inspired sculptural silhouettes and experiment with visceral hybrid materiality to investigate the relationship between body, technology, politics and gender. Her cyborgian couture garment was exhibited in Cristóbal Balenciaga Museoa, Spain and was subsequently acquired by the museum for its permanent collection. In 2022, she released their couture collection and designer profile on CFDA Runway360.
