The Maayama-li Dress was designed by First Nations designer Julie Shaw and made in collaboration with Aboriginal weavers of Bula’bula Art Centre in remote Arnhem Land. A couture-inspired piece, the bodice was made using plant materials harvested from Country, using ancient traditional weaving techniques of the Yolngu people. The skirt section was made from deadstock fabric, using couture draping techniques by seamstress/draper Alice Cliff. This dress is a celebration of artisans coming together to achieve a creative vision, and representing the intersection of high fashion & Indigenous design.
