The Surrealist Chronicle (2011)
Acknowledging the surrealist’ interest in the written word,
the Queensland Art Gallery presented the multimedia
project ‘The Surrealist Chronicle’. Styled as a broad sheet
newspaper and featuring animation, moving image,
sound and visual effects, ‘The Surrealist Chronicle’
allowed visitors to participate in the text and language
games the surrealists once played. Participants were able
to select from four different interactive activities which
were presented as newspaper articles, headlines and
advertisements. The games were How to make a Dadaist
poem, Parallel story, Exquisite corpse and Directions for
use. The results of each game created a surreal version
of the broadsheet which could be shared with friends and
family through Facebook, Twitter and email.
