Entry Description

On November 8, 2013, the strongest Typhoon ever recorded in history hit the Philippines. This devastated whole cities and towns and have left more than 10 million people homeless.
In an effort to give assistance, our firm traveled to one of the badly hit areas, Estancia, Ilo-ilo. In assessing how we can best assist, not only the immediate and physical needs of the victims, as architects we felt duty bound to come up with a housing design that will not only address the need for shelter, but also typhoon resiliency, sustainability and most importantly, creating a community with a sense of renewed hope and dignity. These designs were submitted to the National Housing Authority, a government agency responsible for the relocation and building for the victims of this typhoon. NHA has given their approval for this project for implementation.
