Entry Description

In 2013, the Swiss Confederation decided to acquire the former residence of the Norwegian ambassador inAbidjan's attractive Cocody district, planning to renovate and extend the existing building in
order to house its new embassy there.
Set in a generous park with magnifient trees, the new Swiss embassy needed to fulfil the following four objectives: to ensure the embassy diverse functions, to respect and embellish the site and the existing villa, to take the specific local climate conditions of Côte d’Ivoire into account, and finally, to embody Swiss values.
With the beautiful 60's modernist architectural heritage of Abidjan in mind as well as the use of local materials, LOCALARCHITECTURE design a public space defined with irregularly spaced concrete pillars, set at various angles, in order to reflect Switzerland’s strength and diversity.
