These guestrooms were designed as part of an annex to a membership resort hotel in Toba in the Ise-Shima area, where the 2016 G7 Summit was held. Being designed under Teioku Ichinyo (a Japanese expression representing the exquisite harmony between the building and the garden), the building is located in a prime location on a hill overlooking the sea of Ise-Shima and has been provided with a traditional Japanese-style garden and a large pond with consideration of the continuity of the area to the sea. The whole building was designed in a basic Japanese style using the unique features of Japanese architecture (a fusuma, shoji (i.e., a papered sliding door and a sliding paper screen) and transom), schemes (Japanese twelve-layered ceremonial kimonos, nesting handicrafts and asymmetry), materials (wood, paper and foil) and lighting (shades). That pursues modern and new expressions of the Japanese space.
