Shabbar Sagarwala is a Canadian urbanist, architect and Principal at Eight Inc., the San Francisco-founded experience design firm responsible for Apple, Nike, Nokia and Citibank environments.
He has managed design projects at Toronto, New York and Singapore firms for over a decade, spanning urban precincts, university campuses, educational buildings, private residences and commercial interiors. Prior to relocating to Dubai to head up the newest Eight Inc. office, Shabbar was Director at Eight Singapore where he brought several branded environments to completion, including the award-winning Nissan Crossing gallery in Tokyo, United Overseas Bank (UOB) Shanghai Flagship, Singtel FutureNow innovation Center in Singapore, Globe Iconic in the Bonifacio Global City, Manila and Globe Telecom Gen3 Retail Ecosystem and Philippine nation-wide roll-out. Urban-scaled proposals have included the Changi Precinct Innovation Hub in Singapore and Chapel Plaza mixed-use development Melbourne. Pro bono projects for educational and non-profit institutions have included the INSEAD Creative Garage and Singapore Repertory Theatre renewal. Shabbar pursued doctoral research on post-disaster urban resilience at the University of Tokyo funded by a Japanese government fellowship. He holds graduate degrees in Urbanization and Architecture from the Harvard Graduate School of Design and the University of Toronto respectively. |
