Working in partnership, Watford Football Club Community and Sports Education Trust, Harrow Council
and LOM architecture and design, secured funding and planning permission for the £4.2m project to re-
develop Cedars Youth and Community Centre in Harrow, London.
The project consists of a sports and community building, external all weather pitch and play space. The
design was developed in close consultation with local residents and youth groups to address the sensitive
nature of the site's parkland setting and deliver a state-of-the-art facility built around the local
community's needs. The design draws inspiration from the surrounding context, incorporating a palette of
natural materials including green roofs, a slatted timber facade and gabion walls.
The rich, robust and low maintenance building is also extremely energy efficient. The sustainable design
results in CO2 emissions that are half that of best practice and 25% of the previous building which was
less than half the size.
